Thank You for Bourbon!

We don't mean in the traditional sense, but in the building sense, of course!  This past year we have been as busy as bees pouring slabs, walls, and everything in between for bourbon makers throughout Kentucky.  Here's a few pics from Jim Beam here in Frankfort:

We are so lucky and excited to have taken part in this project. It's great to think about how we have taken part in a small part of Kentucky's booming bourbon industry!

A bit of conversation regarding courteous driving.

This afternoon on my way to the bank, I was stopped by a funeral procession. It never ceases to amaze me the number of drivers out there that do not follow the appropriate and LEGALLY MANDATED protocol for coming across a funeral procession while driving.

So, I've taken it upon myself to pull it straight off out of the driver's manual and post it here.

"Funeral Processions. A funeral procession has the right-of-way at an intersection and may pass through the intersection if the procession is led by an escort vehicle displaying fl ashing yellow, red, or blue lights. The only exceptions are when the right-of-way is required by an emergency vehicle, when vehicles in the procession are directed otherwise by a police or safety officer, or when the vehicle is a train or locomotive. You must not drive your vehicle between the vehicles of a funeral procession except when authorized to do so by a police or safety officer. Do not turn on your headlights or engage in any other act for the purpose of securing right-of-way. Do not pass or overtake any vehicle in the procession unless directed to do so by a police or safety officer, or unless the procession is on a street, road, or highway outside the city, town, or urban-county limits, or unless the procession is on an interstate highway or state parkway. If you violate this law, you may receive a $250 dollar fine or 90 days in jail."

So, not only is this a law, but to take it a step further, a bit of common decency.  Those people in the procession are laying a loved one to rest.  It absolutely infuriates me to see people blatantly pass a procession. It's one of the first things we tell our drivers here; if you see a funeral procession, pull over. No debate. No extenuating circumstances.  Pull over. As far as I know, our drivers always do this.  Please let us know if that is not the case.

The point to this rambling post about funeral processions is to keep in mind that as human beings, we owe each other, at the very least, a small modicum of decency. We are doomed to fail if we don't.

Friday Musings

It's Friday!!! I hope everyone has a great weekend planned; I know those of us here at the plant do!

A lot of us (the smart ones) will be cheering on the Cats against Vandy this weekend! What other games will you all be watching?

Sometimes I think concrete works that way too. Luckily we have an awesome dispatchers, plant managers, and staff that can help those that aren't very familiar with concrete and all the cool stuff you can do with it.
